Theory of Knowledgeby providing a space for students to reflect on the development of knowledge, TOK plays a very special role in the IB DP.

  • TOK prompts students to be aware of themselves as thinkers and recognize the need to act responsibly in an increasingly interconnected world

  • TOK is assessed through an Oral Presentation and a 1,600 word essay and MUST earn a passing score to be eligible to receive the full IB Diploma

Extended Essaythis is an independent piece of research that culminates with a 4,000-word paper

  • The extended essay provides preparation for undergraduate research writing, and an opportunity for students to investigate a topic of personal interest to them (relevant to the student's DP subject)

  • Extended Essay must earn a passing score to be eligible to receive the full IB diploma

Creativity, Activity, & Service (CAS) - involves student investment in a range of activities alongside their academic studies

  • Student reflect on their CAS experiences as part of the DP, and provide evidence of achieving the seven learning outcomes for CAS

  • CAS is an important counterbalance to the academic pressures of DP - it provides opportunities for collaboration and self-determination and enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through experience

  • Students must meet all seven learning outcomes plus engage in a collaborative project to "pass CAS" - an integral part to earning the full IB Diploma
